Summary

Following his blood-curdling adventures in A Living Nightmare and The Vampire's Assistant, half-vampire Darren Shan is settling into his day-to-day life at Cirque Du Freak, the traveling freak show he has joined. But before he can get too cozy, his vampire master, Mr. Crepsley, whisks him off to the big city for a mysterious mission. Soon, Crepsley, Darren, and Evra the snake-boy are embroiled in a bloody battle of wits between the vampire community and a mad, "vampaneze," a creature from a separate, more murderous race of vampires. Along the way, Darren meets his first girlfriend, and winds up putting her life, as well as everyone else's, in grave danger.

The latest installment of Darren Shan's bestselling saga will surely satiate his legions of bloodthirsty fans. As fast-paced and thrilling as ever, his writing will encourage even reluctant readers to devour the series. Luckily for all, it looks as though we haven't seen the last of this appealing, well-meaning (if occasionally bumbling) half-vampire. (Ages 10 and older) --Emilie Coulter

(spoilers alert, please read at your discretion)

Darren has finally accepted he's a half-vampire. He's watched a friend die and drank his blood to carry his memories with him. It's been over a year since his change.

In this installment of Darren's story, we meet Gavner Purl, a vampire general. He's come to the Cirque du Freak to give some mysterious news to Mr. Crepsley. This news sends Crepsley, Darren, and Evra into the city.

In the city, Evra and Darren learn from the news grisly murders are happening where the victims are drained of their blood. Darren believes Mr. Crepsley is to blame. To discover the truth, Darren and Evra play investigator following Crepsley around on his nightly outings. During their "off" time Darren has made a new friend, girlfriend actually. And once again feels a touch of the human boy he once was.

In their quest to determine the killer of the blood drained people Darren and Evra learn Mr. Crepsley isn't the killer Darren hoped he wasn't. Instead it's something else, a vampaneze. Another race of vampires.

After Evra and Darren are captured by the vampaneze Darren makes a deal with the monster to trade Evra's life for his girlfriend's. In the end Mr. Crepsley is the winner and the monster is dead. Darren says a bittersweet goodbye to his girlfriend.

As the 3rd book in the Cirque du Freak series, I was again enthralled by the story. Following in the footsteps of the first books, this is again a page turner and great for all ages. You are pulled into the story unable to put it down. And when the end comes, it leaves you needing to read the next book. Although this book isn't as good as the first, it's worth the read. This series is a must have and definite re-read.

Percy Jackson has stepped in to my life.

I tried reading Darren Shan's other series,The Demonta, and I could not get through it.So I tried Cirque Du Freak and really liked it.When I read through the third book I just thought it was stupid.Though it didn't stop me from wanting to read the rest of the series. Then when I was waiting for the next book I saw that I had the book The Lightning Theif on my shelf. I decided that I would use it as reading material until I got the fourth Cirque Du Freak book.I started reading The Lightning Theif and immediatley I was hooked.I started begging for more of the series and was not able to read the fourth book of the Cirque. The more I think about it the more I realize that the Cirque is really bland and has no good writing values.

Awesome macabre for teenagers

Dare I say that this where the series begins to show an ongoing plot? I enjoyed the first two, but it's still nice to see where the author is taking us, and that appears here in the third book of the series as Mr. Crepsley and Darren return to the human cities to trail a night killer that may or may not be attached to the vampire world.

This is some of the best horror I've read. Darren Shan may not be the most artistic author, but he's not bad and he certainly knows how to put in the right chill-your-bones and gross-you-out description!

cirque du awesome!

Tunnels of Blood was one of my favorite cirque du freak books. it was the turning point in the series when darren learn of the vampaneze and their customs. This is the book that set off the chain of events that pushes the entire series forward!! a must read!!! the best thing about this book? more evra von!!!

Third book in the Cirque du Freak series

Third book in the Cirque du Freak series.

After an old friend visits Mr. Crepsley, he takes Darren and Evra on a trip. Soon after they arrive in the city, the boys see a news report about mysterious murders taking place that involve victims whose bodies have been completely drained of blood.

The boys suspect Mr. Crepsley, who has been secretive and strange since they arrived in town. Darren and Evra follow Mr. Crepsley and discover that he is following a man who they assume will be his next victim. Darren resolves to kill Mr. Crepsley before he murders the man.

When Darren discovers what is really going on, well, that's when things really get bloody!
