Bogus (Non) Ending

I had never read the author's work before. Here's my mini review:
PROS: two main characters well drawn, interesting, made me care about them and want to know even more about them. Decent set up to the mystery crime story element. I liked two of the side personalities a lot too, could have used more of them (Myrtle and Grit).
CONS: most other characters not filled out enough, and a lot of them, too.
Writing too often covers the same inner ground (the phrase "Jo felt like she was 18 again" is used about a million times in every possible circumstance).
THE ENDING IS AWFUL, BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE. And no I am not talking about the Euro Movie ending where the slice of life just stops and that is the ending. I am talking about (DANGER WILL ROBINSON SPOILER ALERT!!) the two characters that are doing the killing are hired guns and there is a ton of talk about the fact that "assassins are on the loose" and the fact that these two have been hired by these assassins but we NEVER FIND OUT ANYTHING ABOUT THE ASSASSINS AND WHY THEY CHOSE THE VICTIMS! I felt ripped off and sheistered. I don't care if this is the first in a series, at least have the decency to warn me of the fact that I am jumping into a series and that perchance I should not expect an ending. For a positive example, Michael Connelly's Bosch series are each self contained with excellent endings.
The romance part of the equation was in my opinion too sexed up, though no foul language was employed (I give her 20 points for not using that as a crutch). The romance could have been explored with less erotic writing -- to me it was a distraction from the plot. Yes, ok, I wanted them to get together at some point but I don't need to know the exact angle of the thrust when they do. I am an adult who has experienced the fruits of love and I can use my imagination just fine, thanks. Better to tell me what they are thinking and feeling than what they are doing at that point.
BOTTOM LINE: take a pass.

I love this book and I can't wait for the follow up. My friend told me that this is the first in a series, so I am looking forward to the next installment!!
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME--NOTHING EVER HAPPENS!

OMG! WHAT A BORE! I WANTED TO PUT THIS WASTE OF INK AND PAPER DOWN SEVERAL TIMES, BUT KEPT THINKING,"WITH 4 1/2 STARS SOMETHING HAS TO HAPPEN TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER--BUT MAN, WAS I WRONG.
THEN I CAME TO THE END AND CURSED MYSELF, AND I REALIZED, THE POOR AUTHOR DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE AS TO HOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER EITHER. SHE DIDN'T FINISH THE BOOK--SHE JUST STOPPED WRITING AND DECLARED IT FINISHED.
DON'T WASTE A MINUTE ON THIS ONE.

This was the first of her books I've read but the best romantic suspense novel I've read in months. Yes, I still have questions like "what happens next??". Hmmm... what a good sequel that would make. I'll definately try another of Carla Neggers' books.
Not a normal Neggers book

Usually I devour everything by Carla Neggers. I was very excited to see she had a new book. I'll be honest - I didn't even finish this one. I felt like it was the sequel to a book I hadn't read. There were too many characters with too many back stories. I didn't care about anyone. I didn't even care how it ended. If this was your first Carla Neggers book, please don't give up on her. Her other books are wonderful!
