Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryIn eighteenth–century Scotland, Magda McClellan, eight months pregnant, is granted one wish from Auld Annie, a wise woman accused of witchcraft. But Magda declines to use her wish because she is perfectly happy; besides, she doesn’t believe in witches. Little does she know how that refusal will forever change her life. In twenty–first century New York, Maggie McDonald and her husband desperately want to have a child. While they wait for a procedure at a fertility clinic, a Scottish nurse named Annie promises to grant them a baby … if that’s their wish. When Maggie awakens, she finds herself round with child in the eighteenth century and panics. Magda has also been catapulted through time, waking up in a hospital bed in New York—and she’s not pregnant anymore. When she goes home with a man who claims to be her husband, she searches for clues to the identity of this Maggie McDonald, whose body she now inhabits. Why is Magda here? And why is she no longer pregnant? As the two women become familiar with their new worlds, they find themselves on emotional paths of self–discovery—but will they find the way home before it’s too late? |

Lust transcends time
This book is one-fifth time travel adventure, four-fifths Harlequin romance. If I was transported from 1700s Scotland to 21st-century New York, I'd spend more time experiencing the wonders of modern technology and society, and less time tremulously yet reluctantly backing away from the perpetually horny hunky reincarnation of my husband.
cheap take-off
I consider this novel to be just a cheap take-off on volume one of the by now classic time-travel historical romance series,OUTLANDERby Diana Gabaldon. In terms of the more usual one-volume time travel offerings, I have yet to find any work with as unusual and detailed plot so magnificiently done as Maryls Millhiser's The Mirror. Although Jack Finney's TIME AND AGAINTime and Again (not to be confused with the TV movie SOMEWHERE IN TIME)is also very descriptive and highly thought-provoking.
I'd suggest any of these latter titles to the derivative boiler-plate A WISH IN TIME.
I adored this book!
I took this book into hospital with me (appropriately, as I quite wished to be somewhere else) and I am glad I did. It was totally absorbing. So much so, I had to force myself to put it down in order to have something to read after my op! When I thought about the subject matter, people waking to find themselves in another's shoes, in another place and time vastly removed from their own, I wondered whether Laurel Bradley could pull it off. She did, admirably. Never once did I doubt that that was what had happened, cease to feel their bewilderment, and see the bewilderment in the eyes of the husbands. The Scots accent was brilliant and the historical element accurate and graphically drawn. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this book. Well done, Laurel.
Not Worth the Time
I love time travel novels and this one sounded interesting; however, the book was so repetitious it could have been shortened by half.
I am willing to accept strange premises for the sake of a good story, but this doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
When finished, I felt I had wasted my time and my money.
Such a wonderful book
I loved this book, I couldn't put it down. Anyone who likes time travel and romance should definitely read this book. You won't be disappointed I know I wasn't.
If you liked this book as much as I did you might also read Love Returns Through The Portal of Time By KS.Michaels
