Accidentally Grabbing 4-Stars
Nina has problems when one of her dental patients accidentally bites her and makes her one of the undead. Now an unwilling, chain-swearing soon to be unemployed vampire she has to convince her friends that she's not just jealous that one of them is a werewolf but she that she actually isn't among the breathing population anymore.
Life can be hard as a newbie vampire and when you add in the fact that her -gorgeous, if exceptionally annoying- accidental creator is about to turn into a 500 year old pile of dust things can be complicated. Now along with a new pair of fangs and a disgusting new appetite this least girly of all women has to sort out her feelings, which is never fun no matter what your species!
This was a good story with a grumpy heroine but it did seem way, way drawn out longer than it needed to be, as if much filler was added. It could have been better, hopefully her next book will hit it out of the ballpark.

Nina had no idea how much her new job was going to bite. Literally! Here she was minding her own business assisting a dental patient, when out of no where, he bit her. She had no idea that she would wake up later, dead! No way is Nina going to allow herself to be the "undead". This is simply not good enough for her. She wants her life back. All the romance novels say it is an easy thing to do, so it should not be too difficult. Right?
Greg just wanted his tooth fixed. He had no idea that he was going to have a reaction to the anesthesia and end up biting the tech. Boy was that a mistake. Not only did he turn someone, which is against his beliefs, but he turned the most annoying woman possible. All he wants to do is try to help her but the woman insists on driving him crazy.
Because one of her best friends has recently become a werewolf, Nina does not find that becoming a vampire is unbelievable, just very irksome. She decides that no way was she going to stay a vampire, so she needed to hunt down Mr. Toothy. She does just that. What she was not prepared for was Mr. Toothy forcing the vampire rules and lifestyle on her. She is convinced that there is a way for her to get her mortality back and he is just keeping it from her. Only when she realizes that Greg is fighting his own battle, a battle to stay undead rather than just dead, does Nina take a step back and realize that being alive, no matter what form, is not so bad.
ACCIDENTALLY DEAD is the second book in the `Accidentally' series by Dakota Cassidy. I really enjoyed the first one and I found that I enjoyed this one as well. Nina's character got on my nerves quite a bit, her mouth and her attitude just drove me crazy. If I was Greg I would have chosen death rather than be mated to her for a lifetime. She constantly was trying to do the opposite of what he was telling her, and she refused to believe anything anyone told her. The beginning of the book and the ending were my favorite. That is where most of the action and drama was. The middle of the book just kept dragging on with Nina and her mouth. Thankfully, the ending of the book perked my interest back up. I am curious as to what is going to happen with Wanda. I hope that the series will continue with her and I'm curious as to what she will be changed into, since Marty was a werewolf and Nina was a vampire.

Great book
Dakota Cassidy is an excellent author! She is so funny and her stories are the best. She and Michelle Bardsely are two of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book and the series.
Fun, but Much Too Cute at Times
Dakota Cassidy's Accidentally Dead is my first legitimate attempt at reading romance novels, so I decided it was best to judge this on literary merit, personal enjoyment, and publishing standards for romantic novels.
To those who care, the cover is appealing and as someone who shies away from covers with Fabio-look alikes and half nude women, this was completely nonthreatening. I realize the author has no control over her book cover design, but I do give it an A+.
The story follows Nina, a dental assistant who is accidentally bitten by a patient on her first day at the job and subsequently transforms into a vampire the following evening. Nina's main conflict is the pursuit of some type of reversal as she refuses to accept the fate that has been bestowed upon her.
With the support of friends, she learns the ins and outs of being a vampire and of course, the vampire who bit her is handsome. However, he (Greg) is put off by Nina's aggressive behavior, which is another subplot.
The negative aspects about this novel include Nina's friends Marty and Wanda. They are at times too cutesy and it seems forced at times. Towards the end of the novel the two women seem to fall into their own, but they have aggravating unrealistic personality traits, that could almost make the reader sympathize with Nina.
Nina's aggressive behavior is appropriate considering her life was taken away and she was converted into a supernatural being, but Cassidy's focus tends to stray from the hardship and true losses that Nina's conversion has cost her. They are briefly touched upon, but I think so much more could have been done with that storyline. However, because Cassidy has Nina focus on stupider agendas, Nina's anger is trivialized.
Considering this is written in a modern setting and Marty herself is a werewolf, these women haveing no clue about vampire mythology is absurd. (Dracula and Underworld, anyone?) I find that hard to believe. One of Wanda's main methods for gaining vampiric information dumbs down the character, which is sad. You get the impression that Wanda is suppose to be the reasonable, intelligent friend in the group. On the other hand, I acknowledge that references to romantic novels are actually a very witty subtle statement from the author, Cassidy. I do get the impression that she was attempting to address the slights that many people have towards romance readers and writers in general.
My last grievance is that when Cassidy wrote from Greg's point of view it didn't seem like him at times. I could hear Nina's voice overpowering what I believe Greg would have said or done.
Now the positive things about this book include Cassidy's ability to construct a well thought out plot. She is able to insert some twists and though we all know the story has to end happily, Cassidy's approach to the ending was not entirely predictable. Not a lot of people can write a story with a good plot line, so I do have to give her due credit.
This book is wonderful if you are in need of escapist fiction. I actually read this in Houston, when we had no power last week and it did take my mind off of the Hurricane Ike situation. That in itself, tells you that this book is not meant to be read as a literary masterpiece. It's a fun book with sex scenes, three in all actually, which I thought was fine since we got to focus more on the story then the sex. If I wanted to read 200 pages of sex, I would read certain fanfiction.
The best thing about this novel, however is Cassidy's accessibility to her fans. Considering how certain authors make it difficult to even contact them, Cassidy enjoys direct contact with her readers. I find that to be pretty decent of her, because an author who is crude to her fans doesn't have many of them in the end. She knows this and treats her fans well.
There's a third sequel in the works, with Marty's story being the first one, this novel being the sequel, and one would assume that Wanda would be the focus of the third novel.
Again, this isn't Shakespeare, but if you want a fun light read this should do the trick. Just try to ignore the cute crap from Marty and Wanda. It does get better.
I give this a 3.5 out of 5. It's a really fun book, but the cute color wheel crap became too much at times.
Wicked Fun with Attitude
If you enjoyed Dakota Cassidy's "The Accidental Werewolf", then you'll certainly want to check out "Accidentally Dead", which tells Nina's story.
The foul mouthed and jaded Nina has scored a position as a dental hygeinist. The good news is she no longer has to hawk overpriced lipstick to eke out a living. The bad news? She's bitten by a patient her first day on the job.
It doesn't take Nina long to realize that the patient, Gregori, was a vampire--making her one, too. Determined to hunt Gregori down and force him to turn her back into a human, Nina soon finds that keeping distance between herself and the uber-hot Gregori is easier said than done. After all, someone has to show her the vampy ropes before she manages to turn herself to dust.
Naturally, the sparks fly between Gregori and his reluctant vampire, setting the stage for some hot, sexy fun as the pair battle their fierce attractions to each other.
The Accidental Werewolf is LOL funny. Ms. Cassidy did an excellent job of turning Nina, a potty mouthed, hard nosed character into a sympathetic, likeable heroine. While the book works as a stand alone title, the fun is that much more wicked if you've read "The Accidental Werewolf".
Highly recommended!
