Summary

Setting: Regency England

Sensuality: 8

Regency rake Alasdair Reginald Cynster, better known as Lucifer, is determined to avoid the epidemic of marriage that has claimed the rest of his male relatives. He leaves London for the Devon countryside and a quiet visit with an elderly friend, but gets the shock of his life when he stumbles on his friend's body, is coshed on the head by an unknown assailant, and wakes to find himself being tended by the lovely Phyllida Tallent. Entranced by the beautiful lady and her quick mind, Lucifer soon finds himself conspiring with Phyllida to solve the murder even as he grows daily more involved in the lives of the residents of Colyton. For her part, Phyllida had resigned herself to choosing a suitor from the unprepossessing noblemen living in and about Colyton. The sophisticated, handsome Lucifer takes her by surprise and shakes the foundations of her world. Neither Lucifer nor the willful Phyllida had planned to fall in love, but destiny clearly intends otherwise. If the unknown murderer has his way, however, neither of the two will live to enjoy a happy ending to their tale.

Stephanie Laurens deftly combines a strong mystery plot with a breathtaking love story in this, the latest Bar Cynster story. Lucifer has the charm, character, and powerful personality that readers adore in the Cynster men, while Phyllida perfectly balances him with quick wit, courage, and a strong will of her own. All About Love is sure to be a hit with devoted fans and new readers alike.--Lois Faye Dyer

good novel but somewhat unbelievable.

Rating: Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4

There are a lot of good things about this book, don't get me wrong but its just some of the little details that made it all hard to believe. For one thing, the reason why Phyllida isn't married by now. I have read quite a few of Stephanie Laurens books and the reasons vary, some of them being: family scandal, death, money issues, want of children which are solid reasons. ANd then we come to Phyllida who just says "I have nothing to gain". Admittably her suitors were less than impressive and there is a ring of truth in this, and she did have her father wrapped around her finger but that's it? SHe must have been raised with the idea she'd get married and have children and here she is waltzing around at 24 unmarried. I have a hard time believing that she'd got away with being umarried for that long with that flimsy excuse.

Then there's the time period. So most of the book, full of a lot of events, is covered in 9 days and then when they are waiting for the murderer to show evidence its like 2 weeks. Hard to believe that one. ALso, while Lucifer and Phyllida had distinct enough personalities, I never got a full characterization out of them. It's like there was something that wasn't there. And while small it is, I really didn't get how Lucifer came to decide to marry Phyllida. In the beginning,he did everything to fight touching her, knowing she wasn't one of his usual conquests, and then, out of no where its gone.

It was these things that made what seemed to be a great additon into a good addition. The characters were likable, good balance between romance and sex scenes, predictable but good mystery with plenty of life threatening parts, few long ranging sentences as Laurens is know for these days, and an excellent ending. These are all the things that made it worth reading but its just that if its circumstances are not believable its kind of hard to seriously consider this novel much less get into it.

All this in nine days?

Rating: Score = 2 Score = 2 Score = 2 Score = 2 Score = 2

This book is simply too crammed together. The reader is expected to believe that in the space of nine days, Lucifer (Alasdair Cynster) decides to settle down in a part of the country he's never been before on his unexpected inheritance (which hurries along much more rapidly than matters proceeded through probate back then), is welcomed into the local society without any of the hesitation that's common in rural areas and small towns, falls in love with a young woman he had never seen or heard of before, gets her to reciprocate, and solves a mystery.

There's no apparent reason for it to be so crammed together. The whole would have worked better if the author had given herself sufficient elapsed-plot-time to develop the social interactions more believably.

very good but not the best!

I think this one was enjoyable but I gave it 4 stars because I was really coming down off a high from the previous Cynster novel about Gabriel. THAT one was a firestarter!

All About Love

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

All About Love (Cynster Novels) The Sixth and final Bar Cynster member is as hot as they come. It stands to reason that a man called "Lucifer" is going to set your skin on fire and send chills down your spine. Being in a love scene with him is not for the faint of heart. So beware and forewarned. Enter his world at your own risk. The only regret you will have is that he is the last of the most perfected romantic men you will ever have the pleasure of meeting and taking home with you.

I was disappointed...

I usually like Laurens' books, but there was one word for this book... Boredom... I should've listened to the bad reviews, but since I read A Secret Love, and enjoyed it, I decided, why not? Big mistake!!! Laurens spent so much time on the murderer's plots and schemes, and then rushed the ending in a blink of an eye... I admit, there were pretty sexy scenes, (the reason why this received three stars instead of four) but other than that it was boring... I still think that Lucifer's story could've been way better. He was so hot!!! But the heroine was also so stupid, always getting in danger, but I guess that's what made the book fun...
