Great tool for explaining Asperger's to my 6 year old
| Customer Rating: | | I loved this book. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome earlier this year. I was looking for books for me and came across this one. After the doctor's appointment where the doctor explained to him that he had Asperger's, we came home and we read this book. It is written in very simple terms and essentially equates some cat qualities with Asperger's qualities (like to be alone, do their own thing, etc). It really puts a positive spin on it. I think it would be good for a 5 year old to a 9 year old. My son took a bit of time, and a lot of discussions with us, to get his head around what Asperger's means, and this book helped a lot. I highly recommend it. |

Amazing Book!
| Customer Rating: | | I am truly saddened to see some of these negative reviews here for a book that is so highly treasured in my house. I purchased it for my six year old son with Asperger's Syndrome and he simply adores it. I think it serves as a very helpful tool in explaining to a young child what the symptoms of Asperger's are and help them to recognize their own behaviors. We also have "Of Mice and Aliens" and nobody does it better than Kathy Hoopman. She is the perfect voice of reason in helping Aspie kids understand and cope with their situation. |
