Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryBorn in the U.S.A.... American gals are taking liberties -- and pursuing happiness on their own terms -- in this star-studded story collection featuring the nation's red-hot women writers. They've declared their independence! Jennifer Weiner (In Her Shoes) learns "The Truth About Nigel" -- and the trouble with falling for an incognito Hollywood actor. Lauren Weisberger (The Devil Wears Prada) sends a single New Yorker on a backpacking trip halfway around the world -- where she sees her love life back home with new eyes -- in "The Bamboo Confessions." A harried mom with a hit novel crosses the pond in "My Great Brit Book Tour" by Adriana Trigiani (Lucia, Lucia), and turns a crumbling talk show appearance into a sweet success. Also uniting their talents in this free-spirited anthology are: JULIANNA BAGGOTT • CINDY CHUPACK • LYNDA CURNYN • QUINN DALTON • LAUREN HENDERSON • JUDI HENDRICKS • GRETCHEN LASKAS • CLAIRE LaZEBNIK • CHRIS MANBY • SARAH MLYNOWSKI • MELISSA SENATE • JILL SMOLINSKI • NANCY SPARLING • LAURA WOLF |

Just OK
I kind of felt like just when I started getting into a story it ended.. maybe short stories arent for me. If you do like just clips of stories this is a good book
Great exposure
For the most part, I loved this book. "American Girls About Town" showcases 17 different writers, featuring some of the best writers in this genre of "Chick Lit."
I would simply buy this book for the chocolate cake recipe in "My Great Brit Tour" by Adriana Trigiani and for the wit, humor and emotion in "Leaving a Light On" by Claire LaZebnik, "Five" by Julianna Baggott, "The Truth About Nigel" by Jennifer Weiner and "The Bamboo Confessions" by Lauren Weisberger.
For women of every age, these stories connect with the different experiences women go through as they mature. I am only in my mid-20s, but I could just as easily identify with a story of a twentysomething in Lauren Weisberger's piece as I could with the older mom in "Leaving a Light On."
There are a few duds in here, but I emphasize "few." The stories I didn't like either had a weak ending, lacked excitement or development of the main character, or they just were plain boring and trite. Nonetheless, the book gives a great glimpse into the writing styles of these talented female storytellers and have piqued by interest to explore their individual novels.
I got through the book fairly quickly, and I would recommend this book to fans of Chick Lit or chocolate cake :)
Fun Fun Fun
Out of the 13 short stories, I enjoyed 10 thoroughly. A great way to discover some authors I was unfamiliar with. A great investment.
Funny and Tender
I bought this book because I'm an avid fan of Jennifer Weiner. As a result I have been introduced to the fun and whimsical writing of the other authors who contributed their short stories.
Each short story is engaging and very entertaining.
Fun and fast read!
For the young woman. This book is a great, fun and fast read. A lot of short stories by great women writers.
