Summary

Ecstatically happy in her marriage to handsome gentleman pirate Reed Taylor, Kathleen is never far from her beloved husband?s side?until their idyllic existence is shattered by the onset of the War of 1812. Her worst fears are realized when she receives word that Reed?s ship, the Kat-Ann, has been sunk, and all aboard have perished. Refusing to believe that Reed is dead, Kathleen mounts a desperate search with the aid of Jean Lafitte?s pirate band, to no avail. The memory of the burning passion they shared is ever present in her aching heart?and then suddenly an ironic twist of fate answers her fervent prayers, only to confront her with evidence of a betrayal that will threaten everything she holds most dear.

Read for yourself and decide

Rating: Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3

After reading the first book fire and ice I was rapt to see there was a sequel. After reading the reviews about this second book I was desperate to read it to see if what was being said was true. I personally am glad that I ignored the reviews begging not to read this book, I think I would of done myself a disservice. I loved it. Yes there was infidelity - on both sides - yes he was awful to her - but all for valid reasons and I think it would of rung a bit untrue had he not had a relationship with Sally Simpson. A year on an island with a pretty girl and being the insatiable man that Reed is, it's obvious what he would of done. IF he had continued that relationship once he had Kat back then I would of thought differently of him, but we know this is not the case.
Give this book a go and decide for yourself,I hope Catherine considers making this a trilogy, I would love to read more about these fabulous characters.

Great Read

This book is a continuation of the characters from Fire and Ice. I love period romances, but I liked this one even more because the main female character is tough and not a typical "damsel in distress." I liked this one better than Fire and Ice. Their are many twists, and a surprising love triangle occurs, that really keeps your attention on page turning. Lots of action and love scenes. This one is either my favorite or second favorite in the Catherine Hart book line, and I've read almost all of them now.

Love Catherine Hart

One of the best books from her, the first book was just as good if not better, Fire and Ice

Why'd she ruin a great first book w/ a second book?

Rating: Score = 1 Score = 1 Score = 1 Score = 1 Score = 1

Maybe if I had read this book first I would have been okay w/ it but I did not. After such fond memories of the 1st book this almost ruined those! It took so much for me to forgive Reed in the first but this ruined him for me. HE should have been begging Kat on hands and knees for forgivness instead of the other way around. What a crock, SHE thought he was dead but HE was just a faithless pig and held HER "crimes" agianst her and she let him! Not only that she allowed him to flaunt his in front of EVERYONE including their children as if he were the victim. Bah on him!
I was devistated when I thought he was dead and wishing he was as soon as he came back. It is never a good thing to hate the hero. I am not sure if I will ever be able to enjoy "Fire and Ice" agian and it is one of my favorite books of all time. Sad, sad, sad. Cathrine why did you do this too me?
Normally infidelity in my novels, although not encouraged, does not bother me, I am able to see beyond to the big picture ect but this novel (maybe because it was such a focus and he never allowed her to deal with it and held hers, which was understandable and over, over her head, while he installed his mistress in their home)never gave me the resolution I needed I guess. I would rate this book a zero if I could.

Read Fire and Ice and leave off with the happy warm glow you FINALLY come to in that novel alone, this will just make you sad for the main characters.

The world's best _______ is back for more

Rating: Score = 2 Score = 2 Score = 2 Score = 2 Score = 2

Kathleen O'Reilly Haley Taylor is back for more hot nookie and swordplay on the high seas. Like the first book, there's not exactly anything shocking or surprising here: just from reading the back cover teaser you can easily (and correctly) surmise that Captain Reed is not dead and has taken on a lover in his wife's year-long absence from his life. Truthfully, I found the story from the point Reed and Kathleen are reunited to be a little more than boring: it's a rehash of the first book. He's a total *** and slowly comes to the realization that he loves Kathleen more than anything. This ephiphany apparently neatly wraps up over 100 pages of acrimony in about 5 pages.

Still, the book was engrossing enough to finish. I think the first book is better, though.
