Summary

SPOCK A TRAITOR?

There is sabotage aboard the Enterprise, and Spock's investigation leads him into defiance of the Federation and a bizarre alliance with the Romulan and Klingon Empires against the bloodthirsty Tomarii -- a savage race for whom war and battle are life itself.

Now Spock has been declared a traitor and condemned to the shame of the Federation's highest security prison. And now Captain James Kirk must face the toughest decision of his command, while a lifelong friendship and the destiny of the free universe hang in the balance!

This is a Classic !!

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

I've read quite a few classic Star Trek books and only a few stand out and this is one of them. In fact, this is the Best of them. I continually pick up this book again to read year after year. This is truly a Classic! If you only get a chance to read one classic Star Trek book in your life, read This One. You won't regret it!

One of my absolutely Favourite

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

when I read this book, I let everything else alone and read the book in one time. I read the whole day til late at night, until I had finished it. Great book, phantastic story, thrilling from the beginning til the end. Everyone who wants to read a good and thrilling Star Trek Novel I will recommend this one.

"Wrong! That's the word, Spock. Wrong!"

Rating: Score = 1 Score = 1 Score = 1 Score = 1 Score = 1

Very late in the novel Kirk makes the above observation which also sums up this story. The action opens with the Enterprise nearly being destroyed, severely injuring members of the bridge crew. Spock risks paralysis as a result of his injuries in an attempt to find the cause of the explosion. His efforts lead to a court martial and charges of treason as the situation further deteriorates.

All of that occurs in the first half of the book which brings up the first problem, the author threw in enough plot for about five books causing the action to leap from thing to another without ever fully exploring anything. Other issues include very poorly researched science concepts (the author has managed to ignore basic precepts in astronomy, biology, ecology and physics to name a few). Another huge problem is that despite naming the characters Kirk, Spock, McCoy et al and placing them on a space ship named Enterprise in a Federation these characters have nothing in common with the Star Trek universe that we have all come to know and love.

There are many other titles in the series of Star Trek tie-in novels and happily most of them are much better than this one.

a great adventure that covers alot of ground

spock..traitor? sounds impossible doesn't it?

without giving too much away, I think just about any reader will be wondering about how this one's going to pan out..

there's alot of subplots in this book, but sonni cooper wraps them all up nicely AND doesn't lose the reader in the process

the primary focus is on spock and this is just another example of how great the character was and IS, especially when in the hands of someone who knows how to write him well

out of all the trek books I've read this is definetly up there as one of my favorites if not my very favorite so far...GREAT story that would have probably made a fantastic movie

Best of the Best

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

Easily the best of the Star Trek books. It's just too bad that Sonni Cooper didn't write any of the movies. Unlike many other books that try to be episodes, Cooper went beyond the simple do-nothing formula and made a real adventure with a story that was much better than the average episode-wannabe book.
