Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) is known to be the definitive edition of the Hebrew Bible. It is widely regarded as a reliable edition of the Hebrew and Aramaic scriptures and is the most widely used original-language edition among scholars. It is a revision of the third edition of the Biblia Hebraica edited by Rudolf Kittel, the first Bible to be based on the Leningrad Codex. The Leningrad Codex is the oldest complete Hebrew Bible still preserved. It originally appeared in installments, from 1968 to 1976, with the first one-volume edition in 1977; it has since been reprinted many times. The text is a nearly exact copy of the Masoretic Text as recorded in the Leningrad Codex. The Masoretic notes are completely revised. Included is a foreword in German, English, French, Spanish and Latin as well as an English and German key to the Latin words, abbreviations and other symbols in the critical apparatus. Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) Compact Edition is identical in content to the standard edition (including the critical apparatus in Latin and the foreword in multiple languages); however, its size makes it exceptionally convenient for the student of Hebrew to carry and use. Its portable size in no way compromises the readability of both text and critical apparatus, which retains a bold, clear font. Cool find! | Customer Rating: | | When I received this version of the BHS I was suprised at how small it was, but after lugging it back and forth to class I've found this smaller version to be awsome. This is a true Hebrew student's BHS, a working man's BHS if you will. | The Essential Edition of the Hebrew Bible | Customer Rating: | For students and scholars of the Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew, this book is essential for furthering one's personal knowledge and understanding. This is the revised Babylonian text of the Masoretes, considered to be the most accurate collection of Biblical texts, complete with accurate vowel pointing as well as various notes and study helps (The drawback to the latter is that you will have to be able to read German, as this is a German edition. Only some of supplemental text is in English and various other languages). The text is rather easy to read with moderately sized font. As far as size and weight are considered, it is fairly light and comes in a small portable size. Now, here is the main catch: The binding appears to be very secure, but it is actually very prone to fall apart if not taken care of properly. Dropping it is not a good idea and if a person needs to carry it around in a back pack, make sure that it is placed securely so the spine will not be rendered crooked by other items in the bag(this will prove fatal for your BHS' cover if these measure are not properly taken). It is probably better to carry in a small book back or satchel than a back pack, as my Hebrew professor suggested to me (his fell apart).
Aside from that last draw back, this edition of the Hebrew Bible is a must have for scholars and is an excellent resource for Hebraic studies. | small | Customer Rating: | | This product was much smaller than I expected it to be. No dimensions were offered on the Amazon shopping page but I ordered hoping that this edition of Biblia Hebraica would be a large enough book to allow for tranaslating between the lines. When it arrived, it was tiny! I was puzzled by a sticker on the back indicating that I had received the small version. I was not given a choice on amazon's website about whether I wanted a small or large edition of this book. I'd love to order a larger version from Amazon, but am not sure if they have them available. | Good price and Delivery | Customer Rating: | I bought this Bible on Amazon, because the price was better than brazilian's book stores. Besides, the delivery was according to the time preview on the amazon site. I was very satisfied with the purchase. | Absolutes Perfekt! | Customer Rating: | | This edition of BHS is beautiful, hardcover with cream-colored pages, a ribbon marker, and a good size Hebrew font (with diacritics). Introduction is in German, Latin, English, French, and Spanish. Notes on each page give various information, including Greek examples from the Septuagint (my favorite part). The book although nice is not oversized, at about 7 1/4" X 5 1/4" or so, very convenient. If you are a student of Hebrew you will get your money's worth. |
