Dear Zoo is twenty-five years old -- and still as popular as ever! And with an updated look, this children's classic is sure to delight a new generation of readers! Stephanie's Gift | Customer Rating: | | This looks like a great book for a small child. We are giving this to our Great Niece for Christmas. | chicknscratch | Customer Rating: | | Great lift the flap book, highly recommend my son loved this book! Still does~ | Great book! | Customer Rating: | | My 20 month old twins LOVE this book! It has a cute story and they enjoy lifting the flaps. | Great little book! | Customer Rating: | | This is such fun for my two year old grandson! It is tough enough to last through many readings, and he is fascinated by opening each one of the little doors as we read through it. At this age, he probably does not really "get" the story line, but he loves the surprise of each little door opening, and saying the name of the animal. | Another simple, repetitive story for little ones! | Customer Rating: | Children like a repetitive structure because it helps them understand what's going on and predict what will happen next. (For that matter, adults like it too! Repetition is a crucial part of traditional storytelling and modern-day speechifying.)
This one is about a child who wrote to the zoo for a pet and, being a zoo, they sent him/her all manner of exotic, but unsuitable animals before finally hitting on a puppy. Each animal is hidden inside a box of some sort, that's where the flaps come in.
It's great fun (at least the first thousand times, then it's only a little fun) to lift the flaps and adlib some animal sounds to describe whatever's hiding. And, as a plus, the flaps on this book are actually fairly sturdy - we haven't had a rip yet, and we've had this book a few years.
Definitely a keeper. |
