Summary:
Not just another book about dogs, but a collection of stories, with adorable photos, of many homeless dogs who were scheduled to die in shelters around the country. They were saved from euthanasia by a group of volunteers with the Dog Rescue Railroad - an informal group of hundreds of thousands of internet users who get dogs out of shelters and then drive a leg of a trip from one state to another where the dog will be or already has been adopted. Some of these stories are heartbreaking, and some will make you split your sides laughing at what can happen in a car with a dog if you are not prepared. This book will reaffirm your faith in the goodness of people who spend their weekends doing their small part to help the millions of dogs in animal shelters across this country. Maybe you might want to try it yourself. There is a detailed section in the back that gives you information on how to volunteer.

An Inspiration

I've never written a review, but this book inspired me like no other...

Like others - I laughed, and I cried - but most importantly - I became part of the solution. As involved as I have been in rescue orgs., never did I realize such an easy opportunity to help existed.

The author has so accurately described the reality of the simple things that we all can do to make a difference, and the 'instant gratification' that comes with it... For anyone who loves animals, and has ever wondered "But, what can I do?" - "Every Dog Has It's Tale" has the answers.

Awesome writing, heart-warming stories (and pics), and an absolute MUST READ for anyone that loves the true innocents...

By far, the most inspiring book I have ever read...

Just when you thought you knew everything about dog rescue...

Have you ever heard of the underground railroad -- the network of humanitarian, and like-minded people who helped slaves escape during the United States Civil War?

Did you know that today there is a network like it for dogs?

Deborah Eades is a volunteer transporter for the Dog Rescue Railroad, and her book, "Every Rescued Dog Has a Tale" tells the stories of some of the dogs that were rescued from death row at dog pounds across the country, and how they were transported to safety and new forever homes.

The stories are short and accompanied by photos of the dogs. Suitable reading for tweens to adults. One of the best things about this book is that proceeds from its sales benefit various humane groups.

The book was well written and I enjoyed it. It was a very quick read and I was disappointed at the price I paid for how quickly it was read and the individual stories seemed very short. This would be a good book for children 4th - 6th grade. Personally I would wait till it showed up at your local library or borrow it from someone.

Every Rescued Dog Has a Tale - you'll laugh, you'll cry, but you won't be able to put this wonderful little book down.

If you've done transports you will find yourself saying "Been there, Done that!!!"

Deborah has captured the essence of pet transport - thru bad weather (try carrying 9 dogs in 2 cars thru torrential rain on I-40 in TN) and good. This book will help you remember nearly every transport vividly (yes, I still remember carrying two labs, who we discovered didn't like water, thru 6 inches of water in a driving rain in a MacDonalds parking lot to their next ride). This book will bring those memories back vividly.

And if you aren't a transporter - follow the directions in the book and join the fun - and the sadness, for there will be times of sadness in a transport. A recent cocker transport I was involved with included a very sick 10 year old senior. But there was a silver lining. Tho she didn't make it, crossing over the bridge 3 days after the transport, she at least was in a loving home when she left us.

This little book will bring all of these memories flooding back. Enjoy - I did.
