SummaryTHE ELEVEN--an alliance of ultimate predators. Primal, lethal, irresistible. THE PROPHECY--an ancient Mayan prediction that the world will end on 12-21-12. THE PREY--where can you hide from pure evil? Kelly Maloy opens her car door to much more than a great looking stranger at the Houston airport. Terror, desire, and a horrible truth climb in with him. She's only supposed to drive Ty Endeka around the city for a few weeks. Too bad no one tells her that once day fades she'll become part of a battle fought in the darkened streets with an enemy that isn't human. And the sensual man who feeds her fantasies hides a soul that gives new meaning to animal magnetism. Eleven Gods of the Night... |

Werewolves, vamps, and blue eyes, oh my!
Kelly Maloy is short on cash so she accepts a job as a driver for a man who she is told will be in town for business. Though her fare is definitely sexy, there is also an element of danger about him - dead bodies seem to appear wherever he does. Kelly finds herself in the middle of an epic struggle to save first her city of Houston and ultimately all of humanity.
Eternal Pleasure is this first installment in the planned Gods of the Night series. 9 evil spirits led by a leader referred to as Zero plan to take over America city by city, and Kelly's lover Ty and his fellow disembodied souls (dubbed the 11) are the only ones who can stop him. I assume that future books in the series will be set in different cities. Hopefully Kelly will be along for the ride, as her feisty nature is a welcome change from the testosterone-laden 11.
Though the romance aspects are kind of cheesy, this book would be a pleasant escape after a bad day at work. There are vampires, werewolves, former dinosaurs... lots of creatures for paranormal romance fans.
Best Shapeshifters EVER!
This book opens with a prologue--predators hunting, catching, crunching and devouring. Then having sex. Then, wham, the predator is a soul stuffed inside a human and on his way to meet up with ten other predators. The world is going to end in 2012 at the end of the Mayan Calendar, and these eleven guys (Eleven! That's lots of books.) have to save the world from the inevitable destruction because this is The Last Time and if they don't shape the End of The World, it will be terrible and horrible. So the boss guy, who's in a different category than the shapeshifter guys, sets up the group with personal drivers who are supposed to be able to hide their aura signatures. These drivers are ordinary humans, many female. (Don't know if they all are.) And they go off with their drivers to hunt the bad guys and save the world.
These are not your usual shapeshifters, and Bangs does a bang-up job with the revelation of what, exactly they shift into, which is a HOLY crap! moment. Nor do they shift in the usual fashion. But she makes it work. She makes the relationship and the world building work. It just all works. Very well. This is a prime example of "the same, but different," and I'm really having a hard time not giving away the Big Spoiler. Maybe in the next book, I can do it.
This is the first book in a series, and I am seriously looking forward to the books yet to come.
Love this new series by Bangs
I've always enjoyed reading Bangs books for the humor factor alone. This new series "Gods of the Night," doesn't have the tongue in cheek funny her previous books have, nevertheless it didn't stop me from finishing it off in one night. It is very reminiscent to Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series in that there is the mysterious leader with what seems to be ultimate powers controlling the activities of blood-thirsty warriors and the love of their lives have to overcome some harsh test of her love to "marry" them. But that is where the similarities end. These Eleven have powers that I can easily say I have NEVER read of before. Get ready for this...they have the souls of DIONOSAURS, and can produce their souls in a manifestation around their bodies for fighting and protection.
I definitely recommend this one!
Great start to a series!
I wont go into the plot because others have done such a fantastic job. I will say that this was a good book and I can not wait to learn and read more.
5 stars
For sixty five million years, the Eleven have waited for this time, the time when the world would be poised on the edge of a violent change, one that would wipe out mankind, unless they, the protectors of humanity, could triumph against their foes. Now, with the long prophesied event upon them, it is up to Ty Endeka and his ten "brothers," for want of a better description, along with Ty's driver, Kelly, to prevent what would amount to Armageddon. For her part, Kelly had no idea what she was getting into when she accepted the job to chauffeur the sinfully handsome man, or any idea what he truly was. She did know Houston could get strange, but as she enters Ty's world, she finds out exactly how weird. Her planet is on the line here, and now, so is her heart. Ty is not an ordinary guy; in fact, he's so different that even if he saves the world, Kelly's looking at a broken heart, but she still has to risk it all.
***** This is a complex book, one that is tough to sum up without letting the cat, complete with sharp fangs, out of the bag, and that would absolutely ruin your enjoyment of this marvelous novel. Ms. Bangs can be relied upon to deliver a story worth her readers' time and money, but she truly reveals her range of ability in this one. We are used to light comedy from her, and it's there, but coupled with high drama, action, and concepts that are brand new, at least to me. Her hero is like nothing you've met before on the printed page, and I seriously doubt elsewhere either. As a native Houstonian, I can add in that she captures the city itself well, too, and a couple of places where she mentioned supernatural goings on taking place, I had to think, "You know, that could explain a bit." *****
