Summary:
"No preaching (Blume never does) but the message is clear; no hedging (Blume never does) but a candid account by Kathy gives intimate details of a first sexual relationship. The characters and dialogue are equally natural and vigorous, the language uncensored, the depiction of family relationships outstanding".--Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books. ALA Best of the Best Books for Young Adults.

If your daughter is having sex at age 12, this is the book for you

We all went to school with "those" girls. They smoke, drank, and had sex before the rest of us. If your daughter falls into that group, she may benefit from reading Forever. If however, your daughter is like most girls...concerned with grades, friends and first kisses, then this book is not for you. It just may make regular girls think they are wrong for not having sex.
Let's allow our young girls to read for fun. CS Lewis, Harry Potter, Anne of Green Gables.....there is plenty of reading material available that doesn't graphically describe sex.

The author, Judy Blume does a good job of portraying teenage love and sex through her novel. Though not directly, she shows the importance of having safe sex, which proves essential to teenagers these days. The main characters, Michael and Katherine, meet and go out on a couple of dates. Before you know it, they're in "LOVE". They believe they will be together forever. Though, at times, I didn't believe that Michael really loved Katherine because it almost seemed like he just wanted to have sex. They spend more and more time together, alone. Katherine's parents worry that she spends too much time with one boy instead of broadening her interests with other friends and possible other guys. When summer comes along, Katherine is forced to work at a tennis camp while Michael receives a job in North Carolina. They write to each other everyday, updating one another on their lives, thoughts, opinions, etc. Katherine starts having dreams about being with another guy, and she ceases her letters to Michael. One day, Michael unexpectedly surprises Katherine of his arrival at camp, but forever might not mean forever anymore...

Forever written by Judy Blume was read by me more than twenty years ago. Hard to believe now. I remember thinking that it was one of the most romantic teen love stories I had ever read and that was ever written. It's not a book written to teach young teens how to have sex, but more or less the consequences of having sex at an age where you feel invincable. Like nothing can happen to me. It deals with heartbreak and love loss. Very real things to a teenager that thinks she's found it all at a young age.

A heart-felt and true story that is so elloquently written. One of the first books ever to discuss this "teen sex" issue, which at the time, made it almost taboo. This was always one of my favorite books and still is today

It was so refreshing to know that someone else understands what teens go through and could write about it so candidly. I remember this book went through all of my friends. We loved Judy Blume as young teens and still do today. It was read over and over. It's a memory I simply don't want to lose.

I would recommend this book to anyone.

Good read overall

Overall this was a good book. It was a very easy read. The language was simple but the content was mature. Although at a glance it seems the entire book is about sex, the underlying story was a very good message and I think any teenage girl will be able to relate in some way.
