A lot of great, rare monologues | Customer Rating: | | I actually don't own this book, but I was looking through it in the book store and initially noticed all of the great playwrights with work in the book. This is probably one of the best books I have found for age appropriate monologues for teens. They're not your usual, melodramatic "I'm a teen drug addict" monologues. They come from great plays and each monologue contains a brief synopsis. I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for monologues from college that are rarely seen but still great pieces. | If I could rate it 0 stars I would | Customer Rating: | | I got excited when I first saw this book. The age group seemed great, 14 -22. I wanted something that I could use in college and this appeared perfect. Well I was very much disappointed. The monologues are boring and corny; and not even corny enough to be funny, just bad. This might be good for a drama class taught by a teacher who finds everything art and expression, but if you are looking for audtion monologues or a performance monologue-look somewhere else. I have made a list of good acting books, and this certainly doesn't make it. The pieces in here are unrealistic, and even the best actor could not make them entertaining. Most show little emotion and are very bland. The others that do show emotion, show only one and are never complex. The intros to the monologues are never near enough for you to understand what would provoke these speeches. If you need paper to line your birdcage, by all means by this book otherwise, don't waste your time or money | The Best Book I've found! | Customer Rating: | | As a young actor, it is very hard to find monologues that do not insult my intelligence or acting ability. So many books have shallow monologues that cannot really show off a young actors strong points. I love this book because every page has a challenging and effective performance piece. As a student or young actor, this book is a must have! The pieces come some well known plays, are challenging, and are open to iterpretation to many different styles. The cuttings are great (the best I've found actually). You'll love this book. It's wonderful. |
