A New York Times Bestselling Author

It is the Summer of the Late Rose. A sinister shadow has fallen across the ancient stone abbey of Redwall. For it is rumored that Cluny is coming -- Cluny, the terrible one-eyed rat and his battle-seasoned horde -- Cluny, whose vow is to conquer Redwall Abbey! The woodland creatures rush to a desperate defense. But what can an abbey of peaceloving mice do against Cluny the Scourge and his army?

I don't know why this is in the juvenile section...

Man I love this book. But I always find it in the juvenile section. Have these people READ the stuff that happens? There is at least 1 death every 5 pages! Even if it's cute animals doing it, death is death. Good book though. Highly recommended. In my top 10 favorite list.

Cute little animals that... kill each other. Yay!

Redwall has to be one of the most exciting books of all time in what I consider to already be a very exciting series. Though I suppose many people are familiar with the traditional story book talking animal characters, Jacques takes the genre a step further to create a fantastical world of cutesy talking animals... that totally kick butt, to put it graphically. Redwall is a community that strives for peace, and yet it is also a community that will always defend itself and the week. Jacques makes every character a true individual, and his quick-but-vivid storytelling makes the book a rush to read.

Beware

Redwall is a great story about animals trying to defend themselves from the evil ones, but I would be careful who I recommend it to. I enjoyed most of it, with the exception of some of the rough scenes wherein someone dies or is tortured. The author doesn't make a great deal of it, yet they are descriptive and perhaps too much for younger readers, or listeners... an adult can handle it fine.

First Novel I ever read

I started this series in 4th grade. I'm 24 now and I have read it over again about 4 times. This book was amazing when I was a child, and it still is. Brian Jacques does a fantastic job with his characters and scenery. The poems/riddles are great. The best of the series: Mattimeo. (3rd book)
