Best Christian marriage book ever read...
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
After some recent hard times in our marriage and struggling through infertility I was desperate for marital advice beyond the basics and deeper than "love languages" and "love banks". This book delivered in a big way! Thomas shares insight that is based on sound biblical principles and never trivializes the hardships marital partners endure. I found his words reassuring and uplifting. This book was one of DOZENS that I read during this difficult time and it is the BEST in my opinion. Others oversimplified marriage by boiling it down to communicating better in a manner in line with your spouse's "love language" or offered little in the way of WHY we should honor our spouse and HOW to love through the hard times. I highly recommend this book.

Christian Insights into Marital Holiness
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
It's refreshing to find a book about marriage that does not focus solely on happiness or on fulfilling yourself. You'd have to look elsewhere for a book on that. "Sacred Marriage", as its title suggests, is a bold attempt at examining marriage with the ultimate aim of achieving marital holiness, rather than happiness. The book does not, of course, repudiate the goal of happiness in marriage. That would be perverse. Instead, it points to a higher God-intended purpose in marriage - that of achieving Christ-like holiness between the couple. Fulfillment and happiness will flow from such a marriage as natural by-products.

The book takes an exhaustive look at the arenas in daily life through which martial holiness may be cultivated, be it through one's work, prayer life, or even sex life. It challenges the religious notion, held fast through the ages, that holiness is best achieved through celibacy. I personally found the chapter on servanthood particularly helpful. In it, we are exhorted to serve our spouse as Christ served those around him. This is a badly needed reminder to us in a culture supremely concerned with self-fulfillment - even through marriage.

"Sacred Marriage" will be a blessing to Christian couples - both to those who are married and those preparing to be. Non-Christians too will find the book useful as an insight into a biblical Christian view on marriage.

Best book we've read
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
We read this book a few months into our marriage, which was already (sadly) struggling. The shift in perspective was amazing and convicting to both of us; we now give this book to all our engaged/married friends as a gift and find ourselves quoting from it regularly. Great biblical base and practical advice on how to fix yourself instead of your mate! Of all the books we've read (or tried to read) on marriage/relationships, this one stands out high above the rest. Read this with an open heart and mind, and a true desire for a Godly marriage - you will not be disappointed. God bless!

highly recommended. should be a requirement to any couple contemplating marriage. gary thomas' book would put a lot of therapists out of business if we could just follow the directions. a real blessing.

Good news for wives
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
In Sacred Marriage, the author is sensitive to the needs of women/wives and paints many beautiful portraits of how husbands can love their wives as Christ loved the Church. Approaching marriage from a serving-one-another posture and not self-serving is a radical truth for a self-serving world. Thank you!
