Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com A learning to read book that children will want to read | Customer Rating: | | Given the enormous popularity of the Spider-Man movies, it would be natural that children would want to learn more about him. If that desire for more information can be used to prod them to read more, so much the better. This book is designed for the level 2 readers and is a set of brief explanations of the greatest villains that Spider-Man has had to face. A colorful image is associated with the textual description of the villain and there is a caption that explains the specific powers that the villain has. I strongly recommend this as a book for the young reader, short and entertaining, it is the type of book that will make children beg for the opportunity to read it. | Great book for little superheroes! | Customer Rating: | The book is full of Spider-Man lore and will keep your kids' interest for multiple readings. None of the villians scared my kids. I thought Venom would be too scary but they weren't bothered by his image.
I have a four-year old and a five-year old who love superheroes. There aren't many comic books they can read and enjoy that are age appropriate. I don't let them watch the Spider-Man and other superhero movies because they are rated PG or PG-13.
These books provide a good outlet for their imagination and are mixed into our regular rotation of bedtime books (Dr. Suess, Berenstain Bears, Where the Wild Things Are).
Here are two other DK Readers that I recommend for Spider-Man fans:
* Spider-Man: The Amazing Story * The Story of Spider-Man (Level 4: Proficient Readers)
Check out my other Amazon.com reviews of the DK Readers books. I highly recommend these other Level 2 books (Beginning to Read Alone):
* Munching, Crunching, Sniffing, and Snooping * The Secret Life of Trees * Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! | Not the best choice for younger spidey fans | Customer Rating: | | Santa brought this book and had he known the more graphic content contained inside, he would not have done so. This book actually went back to the store to exchange for a lighter subject. This isn't your "normal" spidey book. It has some very graphic villains in it, one of which is a very intimidating skeleton figure, made to look quite scary. So, if you have a younger guy in the house, I'd recommend something else. Even a six-year-old might find it quite unsettling in places. Don't really recommend this one. | great book for little spider-man fans | Customer Rating: | | If your child is into Spider-man then this book is for him. It has a lot of interesting facts about bad guys that my son enjoys reading over and over. |
