This is a somewhat different approach than traditional guides which merely present a definition of what Team Penning is and perhaps a cookbook of recipes for dealing with specific imaginary sitiuations.

This little book explores the central principles of Team Penning and provides both novice and experienced penners with food for thought, perhaps even provokes thought, as well as provides practical advice.

After reading the previous Amazon.com review I gladly purchased this book. I was frankly disappointed by both the size (tiny book) and the lack of fundamentals expressed. The author seems to almost patronize the reader in his simplicity. It was tantamount to expressing that the fundamental of football is scoring more points than the other team and that the details are not important. I have penned for 4 years now competitively and learned very little from this book. I hope that future authors in this sport not scrimp on details and really provide specific details of "how to". On the bright side a few "gems" were offered such as "if you chase cattle they will run from you" so "put the cow between you and where you want it to go". The Livingston team penning book also offered by Amazon.com is much better for both the novice and advanced penner.

I found *Team Penning: A Fundamental Guide* to be both entertaining and very educational. The book provides general philosophies regarding WHY? and the reader is far better prepared to enter the team penning arena than the more typical "if A happens do B" approach. Understanding WHY B works better prepares the reader to respond to variations ... and you certainly encounter variations in team penning! Explaining the fundamentals in succinct and humorous format makes them easier to remember. Recommended reading for anyone considering trying team penning, and I suspect reading this book would enhance the skills of many already involved in the sport. And while you're reading, be prepared to grin.
