There have been many successful books of ghost stories and fantasy tales before The Little Big Book Of Chills & Thrills. But none that so completely combine all the frightening and magical elements that have terrorized and enchanted children for generations:
Ghost Stories: Including such classics as The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, The Monkey's Paw, The Judge's House, and Pranks.
Tales Of Magic and Fantasy: Such as Alice In Wonderland, The Hobbit, The Magic Shop, and The Crystal Ball by the brothers Grimm.
Poems: Including the witches' chant from Macbeth, Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven, and Colin McNaughton's Transylvania Dreaming.

A sweet Halloween treat
| Customer Rating:  | This is a fun book to read during the Halloween season. Made of snips and snails of Halloween lore and spooky stories, this book is ideal for dipping into for a quick read anytime. Fun, retro illustrations throughout add an element of seasonal entertainment. My only criticism of the book is that while it includes classic Halloween stories like the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Frankenstein, they are seriously shortened forms of the originals (the Frankenstein excerpt is only one page long!), and nowhere does it mention that the passages are lifted from a longer work. This means the unsuspecting reader misses out on the prompt to seek out the work in its entirety. In my opinion, the author/editor should have added an "excerpted from.." note to each truncated tale.
Finally, while it is a fun, chunky size, the binding seems to have been poorly done - a sizable portion of pages in my copy started to fall out during the first reading.
That said, it was a fun read, and a nice addition to my Halloween-themed book collection. |

And the thing that makes it even more special is it has a built in red ribbon as a book marker which gives it an old feel to it. I love this book. Totally wonderful. Get it. Now. |

Best Little Spooky Art Book
| Customer Rating: | | Love this little spooky retro art book. The pictures are reminiscent of childhood if you are a baby boomer! They are rich and have depth, pulling you into the past with just a glance! Love it and would highly recommend it to anyone intersted in "good things" from the past. |
Just the Best Ever!
| Customer Rating: | | I have never written a review before today - but I bought this book 3 days ago and I am just enchanted with it :) At first I wandered through it and then I went from beginning to end... It has wonderful excerpts from books as well as short stories to tell. The vintage artwork is just beautiful throughout the book and just adds to the over all "found treasure" feel. There are wonderful poems (my favorite is now The Transylvania Dream), "spells"(light hearted) and magic tricks for kids. Buy this book if you love all things Halloween - if your looking for goth type stuff this is not for you - this has all the charm of yesterday brought to today to enjoy. I love this book!!! 5 stars is not enough :-) |
