This is a good chakra class book. | Customer Rating: | | I was surprised at how well this book was put together. I considered myself fairly knowledgeable on the chakra system but this book was less technical but more practical about the basics of the system. It has been wonderful grow another level using this book. After journeying threw the book, I'm humbled and left thirsty to learn more. The only con is that the photo's in the book need updating, although I did find the 1980's clothing to be amusing. | Wonderful and Informative | Customer Rating: | This book is one of the best Chakra books available. It is suited for the beginner along with someone like me that has been studing Chakras for several years now. Each Chapter is devoted to 1 Chakra, in it you have several sections like general information, correspondences, then Yoga practices that can be done alone or with a partner or group, and journaling exercises. There are also sections for people into the Metaphysical world like Alter setups and Rituals.. Put all this together and you have a really nice study into each Chakra. The only thing I really found missing is meditiations, which can be found in some of her other published works. Currently she is my favorite in studing the Chakra system and would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to bring your energy systems into balance. This is an easy read- but it is best to follow the writers advice and work on each Chapter(Chakra) for 1 month, making this a 9 month program of study, this is not something to be rushed, it takes time to make the Chakra system, strong, healthy and in balance- this can not be said enough- Take your Time with this book, and do all the exercises she puts forth to get the most out of this book. In the end you will find a difference in yourself and how you feel and you deal with life's up and downs. | Very Beneficial | Customer Rating: | | I worked with the exercises in this book alongside traditional psychotherapy recently, and my therapist was suprised how much progress I quickly made. This workbook gives another aproach to mental health that is spiritually aligned, whatever your religious or spiritual background. The exercises are interesting, useful, and very relevant to what the rest of the book teaches. The authors give many different tactics to approach a problem, which I found useful, and their explanations of the chakra system was consitant with other texts I have read. They arrange things easily and plainly, without over-complicating the subject. This book provides a great reference that I've used again and again, and as a workbook, it allows you to use it directly in your life. The yoga stuff in the book could have been improved--I'm not familiar with Yoga and found it hard to do the physical exercises in the book. | New Age, New Age, New Age. . . | Customer Rating: | | I began to read this book and put it away thinking that I was having a bad day and was not open and receptive. A few weeks later I picked it up again and continued to read it hoping that I might be open to its message. Again, I was not impressed on my second attempt although I felt a bit more open than on my first reading. I am not an expert in chakras but I am doing a good deal of reading in the subject lately. What I am learning is that chakras in the west are predominately cloaked in "New Age rhetoric" and chakras from the east (India, Vedic, Yoga) are centered in reality, not real (tangible), but real (cultural). If you are comfortable in the "New Age", then this book is for you. You will find the terminology and phrases right in line with typical "New Age" subject matter. If you are looking for a real (cultural) definition and or therapy you might want to look elsewhere. Chakras are subtle energy pathways that are an intricate part of Yoga practice (Yoga in its entirety). This book has its place and there are those that will find the information and exercises helpful, I was not one of them. I have been interested in eastern philosophy for many years and find that the truth lies at the source, not in the west. We westerners have a bad habit of interpreting eastern philosophy and culture without truly understanding it. The New Age takes the bits and pieces and try to make sense out of it or create something altogether different. There is no quick western "New Age" way to remove what ails you. Your answers lie in the East and they will take time, knowledge, and practice. Thanks for reading my review. |
