Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat. " As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he''s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward''s sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer''s writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up) Enjoyed it | Customer Rating: | I enjoyed Stephenie Meyer's writing very much. Not so much a big fan of the fantasy romance, but this author can really write. Recommend.
Editor of Michele Cozzens' award winning women's fiction A Line Between Friends | Twilight... | Customer Rating: | This is a story about a girl, that falls in love with a vampire, the story is really amazing!!! After this... you'll want to read the next, and the next... Enjoy it!!! Elisa | Debunk | Customer Rating: | I hve seen countless 1 star review for this book, many insulting fans directly. But before these bias your opinion of this book look at the rank for it. Number 2. Not bad. Then the rest of the series. Both in the top 10. NEED I SAY MORE??? This is avery good series, mainly for the avid fantasy reader, looking for a twist. Some say the Cullens vary too far from the laws of fantasy, but these laws are ever flexible so they should stop complaining. Still more say the plot is bland. This may be true, a little bit, butonly in the first book. But not much. | It won me over! | Customer Rating: | I held firm in my idea that I would not read this book. Too much hype, too many people saying just how fabulous it was. How could it be true? I hate hearing all that and then when I read it, I am sadly disappointed. Well, I finally broke down and purchased it. I downloaded it from the eReader store and set into it.
When first we meet Bella, she is headed off to live with her father in what she sees as a very dark and dull place in Washington State. When she gets there, she finds things a little strange compared to Phoenix. She's been there before, but never to live. With the sun rarely shining she wonders how she will survive. Then, thankfully, she begins to make friends. Things might not be so bad.
Then Edward enters her life. He doesn't do so willingly, and that confuses Bella. If he doesn't want to be her friend then why won't he just leave her alone? Soon, Bella realizes that there is so much more to the wildly beautiful Edward than just his ability to charm people. Before Bella knows it, she is in love with Edward and sure enough things go from bad to worse. Edward is a vampire.
This is one of those books that people have raved so much about that you expect it to actually be horrible, but in fact, it is brilliant. The story is smooth, the characters are unique, and the author does an incredible job of making the setting an integral part of the story line that ties everything into one nice little package. I became so engrossed in this book I feared my Palm T/X might become a permanent part of my hand. Stephanie Meyer is an especially talented writer wit her ability to tell a story and keep the reader a part of it long after they finish the book. | good book | Customer Rating: | | I loved it, and am now addicted. I will continue reading the series and hope the rest of the books are just as good. |
