In every life there is a turning point. A moment so tremendous, so sharp and breathtaking, that one knows one's life will never be the same. For Michael Stirling, London's most infamous rake, that moment came the first time he laid eyes on Francesca Bridgerton. After a lifetime of chasing women, of smiling slyly as they chased him, of allowing himself to be caught but never permitting his heart to become engaged, he took one look at Francesca Bridgerton and fell so fast and hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing. Unfortunately for Michael, however, Francesca's surname was to remain Bridgerton for only a mere thirty-six hours longer -- the occasion of their meeting was, lamentably, a supper celebrating her imminent wedding to his cousin. But that was then . . . Now Michael is the earl and Francesca is free, but still she thinks of him as nothing other than her dear friend and confidant. Michael dares not speak to her of his love . . . until one dangerous night, when she steps innocently into his arms, and passion proves stronger than even the most wicked of secrets . . . How do you know? | Customer Rating: | Q. How do you know when a book is good? A. When there's tear stains on the last page. | One of my favorites in the series | Customer Rating: | | I just finished the whole series, and looking back, this was one of my favorites, so I don't understand the negative reviews of others. I liked the storyline- different and unpredictable- and I really felt for the characters. I just finished "On the Way to the Wedding" this morning, which I also loved. I think I will keep this series and re-read it again sometime next year. I inhaled them! | When He Was Wicked | Customer Rating: | | KEEPER!! I read 5 books per week and only have 6 keepers. So romantic! This was not a light read but in no way was it as dark as other reviewers are making it sound. It's just not as lighthearted as other JQ books. I love the wonderful dialogue between the main characters. It's fast, quippy and charged. I always love a romance where the man is madly in love but has to hide his feelings. This was no exception. This was an emotional roller coaster right til the end. I just loved this book! | my favorite of all JQ's novels | Customer Rating: | | This is a book I have read thousand times, Franceca's and Michael's story isn't easy, but is one of the most emotional, heart-breaking, stories I have ever read. Isimply love it! | Excellent!! | Customer Rating: | This is my favorite Bridgerton book hands down. It seems that Julia realized that although humor is good, she needs to add some more substance to her books. Yes, the story can be a bit depressing, but it is very, very realistic (which in my opinion makes it even more romantic). There are real and difficult problems that the characters have to go through and even at the end of the book there is no usual HEA as it is in other Bridgerton books.
I actually listened to the audibook and had the privilege of listening to Simon Prebble's narration. I would suggest that even if you did read the book, go and listen to the audiobook. It adds a lot to the story and Simon is an excellent reader. He read both characters with such an emotion that it still puts shivers down my spine every time I listen to it. |
